World of Warcraft

I spent the greater part of today playing World of Warcraft's open beta test. It's this really addictive game that lets you create a character and interact with thousands of other reality-challenged humanoids in dark rooms throughout the world, all while pretending to be a warcraft entity. Personally, I was a Night Elf Druid...I got to turn into a really ugly bear and bite things (which, for any of you who know me, is kind of what I'm like when someone wakes me up...). A good chunk of the swim team has been playing this recently, and it's to the point where our conversations in the real world all concern what we did in THAT world. Actually, we've started betting with the game money. A couple of the guys lost some money yesterday by betting on various swimmers. So, to summarize, we're all losers. But there's more!

Well, the Stress Test tried to transition into the Open Beta today around 5pm, and something went horridly wrong. All of a sudden, the servers all shut down, prompting a download, which in turn prompted an update, and then led into the game. The only problem is, all the server realms where we had projected ourselves had disappeared...so, simultaneously, multiple thousands of World of Warcraft addicts were sitting in their chairs blinking at their computers, wondering what the hell was going on.

I'm convinced that this is actually a Blizzard experiment. They've given the Stress Test participants just enough time to get completely and irreversably addicted to the game, and now they just cut it off cold turkey. My symptoms of withdrawal include: Sore eyes, a twitching mouse finger, a craving for really big tree houses, and an inability to rise from my chair due to legs that have long since fallen utterly asleep. I'm just waiting for the email from Blizzard that asks me to relate my personal feelings about the whole thing...because I would be forced to answer that I feel sort of like reality just crawled through the window and stole all of my underwear.

"You're an odd sort of cookie...like Peanut Oatmeal or something."

Found it! Or actually remembered to look and find it, I’m just special that way. Very amusing and intriguing Larry. I am looking forward to remembering to look more.
